But all of our older sibling and parents, aunts, uncles, etc., do ... moistened cloths held over nose and mouth to filter dust episodes, not being able to see across the street, etc. It is hard to imagine the experiences of those who lived through this period.Doug Dawghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14287287108412180656noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31117373.post-86055054521680307012010-05-01T16:54:06.512-05:002010-05-01T16:54:06.512-05:00I am intrigued with this time period and chose it ...I am intrigued with this time period and chose it for the setting in my book, The Gypsy Pall. I realize this article was posted 2 years ago.

Your effort to put places and names to pictures, to identify our buildings and streets, to narrate our history of growth, institution, decay and rebirth, to investigate little known topics, and to link us to other Internet resources of information is indeed a herculean effort and worthy of great praise.

As Oklahomans, we have all been exposed to the Dust Bowl lore. But in your article, I think I enjoyed most the Economic History paper by Cunfer. It provided insight into many things that I did not know or had forgotten (like: using the "Dust Bowl" for the rise in Federal power, the propaganda machines, new Federal agencies, institutional-ization of farm subsidies, and how land use changed little over that decade).
This paper wiped the dust from my my eyes (pun intended). With our current recession, it appears that we are reliving a similar grab of power by our Federal government; with all the same mechanics at work.

Now on to another link at your site.Rick in OKCnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31117373.post-23965423152327737272009-08-19T09:45:01.589-05:002009-08-19T09:45:01.589-05:00Sorry, coolworld, had to delete your otherwise goo...Sorry, coolworld, had to delete your otherwise good comment since it contained a link which is inappropriate in my blog.
